Terlato Wines Joins American Beverage Institute
Family wine company offers support for responsible alcohol consumption initiatives
Lake Bluff, Ill. – April 7, 2009 – Terlato Wines International (TWI) has joined forces with The American Beverage Institute (ABI), the only organization dedicated to protecting consumers rights regarding responsible alcohol consumption at America’s restaurants and bars. ABI, a restaurant trade association, represents the country’s favorite chains as well as hundreds of individual restaurants and on-premise retailers, and serves as the voice of the hospitality industry on adult beverage issues.
“As a family owned company, we are proud to become a member of ABI and stand alongside our restaurant and hotel partners across the country to protect the rights of our customers to enjoy a glass of wine at their favorite restaurant or to celebrate a special occasion in a safe, responsible manner,’ said Bill Terlato, Terlato Wines President and CEO.
“There’s no better complement to a wonderful dining experience than enjoying a quality glass of wine with a fabulous meal. We understand the critical need to balance responsible drinking enjoyment with safe behavior behind the wheel,” said Terlato. “Thanks to the ABI’s ongoing efforts, restaurants have made great headway in reducing alcohol-related fatalities and have become a powerful public partner in fighting drunk driving.”
Under ABI’s leadership in the last two decades, America's restaurants and tavern owners have worked hand in hand with safety advocates to reduce the very real problem of drunk driving. Responsible adults now know that if they cannot drive safely—for any reason—they should not get behind the wheel.
The organization has received acclaim for its campaign: Drink Responsibly. Drive Responsibly. This message recognizes the millions of Americans who responsibly consume adult beverages at a restaurant, a tavern, or a friend's house before safely driving home—and encourages everyone to drink responsibly and drive responsibly.
“We welcome Terlato Wines to the ABI member family,” said Steven Shlemon, ABI president and president of Carrabba's Italian Grill. “The hospitality industry has consistently been at the forefront of the fight against drunk driving and we are pleased to have Terlato Wines join us in this important, ongoing effort.”
“We have supported hundreds of pieces of legislation to apprehend drunk drivers; increase penalties for those convicted, and continue to search for innovative new ways to combat the problem, including voluntary server training, designated driver programs, and responsibility messages,” said Shlemon.
