Michel Chapoutier is one of the world’s most highly regarded stewards of the craft of winemaking. Chapoutier oversees France’s leading Rhône Valley winery. He assumed the role in 1990 at the age of 26. His ambitious crusade is two-fold: strict adherence to biodynamic winemaking, and a global portfolio expansion that features the latest winemaking techniques and experimentation.
In 1997, Chapoutier led his firm outside the borders of France to conquest the New World. He joined forces with Terlato Wine Group and recognized Australian grape growers to discover exciting new terroirs to create wines inspired by his beloved Rhône Valley.
Each year, Doug Fletcher, Vice President of Winemaking for the Terlato Family, visits the winery and participates in the final blending of the Domaine Terlato & Chapoutier wines.
The Domaine Terlato & Chapoutier project has produced the renowned single-vineyard wines lieu dit Malakoff Shiraz and Shiraz-Viognier — with much acclaim from influential critics.
