Tournon Estate’s domain in South Australia is a 50-hectare vineyard cultivated according to exacting biodynamic principles. This forbids the use of chemical sprays and is based on aggressive pruning and close attention to the soil. Located within the Limestone Coast zone on Mount Benson, the soils are, in fact, rich with limestone and have sandy/loamy characteristics in the top layers. These top soils, along with the limestone bed, yield optimal drainage for the vines.
The climate, relatively cool for Australia, is characterized by lots of sunshine during the day and particularly cool nights in summer. Prolonged rainy periods generally do not occur in the growing season.
The close proximity to the Great South Ocean regulates temperature in this region.
Typical patterns of mild and dry weather towards the end of the summer and in early autumn allow the berries to obtain very good ripeness and high acidity levels — characteristics that indicate long aging potential.
