From the intensity and concentration of the Barossa to the elegance of Clare Valley, Australia is capable of yielding amazingly diverse Shiraz. Few wineries believe this more passionately than Two Hands, whose renowned Garden Series from six regions of the country captures Aussie Shiraz at its finest and most distinct.

To help you gain a richer understanding of these wines, Two Hands is proud to share "The Garden Series Experience," a tasting and series of in-depth interviews with the winery’s founders. Made at Terlato Wines International in Lake Bluff, Illinois, the recordings are hosted by TWI’s Don Clemens and feature Two Hands proprietors Michael Twelftree and Richard Mintz, who detail the growing conditions, winemaking and flavor profiles of all six Garden Series wines.

The Garden Series Experience Topics:

  • Introduction: Michael Twelftree reveals how the Garden Series wines are made, the factors that go into choosing vineyards, vineyard practices, winemaking protocol and the all-important Two Hands classification process.
    (05:43 - 5.3 MB - 4/10/2008)

  • Max’s Garden from Heathcote: The tasting begins with the most restrained, elegant and “European” wine in the portfolio. (03:05 - 2.9 MB - 4/10/2008)

  • Harry & Edward’s Garden from Langhorne Creek: We move onto a wine described as surprisingly supple and voluptuous, with a clean-finishing sweetness.
    (02:43 - 2.5 MB - 4/10/2008)

  • Samantha’s Garden, Clare Valley: This wine is from an elevated, cooler South Australian region more well know for its pristine Rieslings than its distinctive shiraz– but Two Hands has demonstrated that Shiraz can shine there equally as well.(03:19 - 3.1 MB - 4/10/2008)

  • Lily’s Garden, McLaren Vale: Two Hands is building structure, complexity and polish into McLaren Vale’s traditional easy-to-drink wines, with ripe, dark purple-black fruit and a lifted bouquet. (02:54 - 2.7 MB - 4/10/2008)

  • Bella’s Garden, Barossa Valley: This is Two Hands’ most famous wine from arguably Australia’s leading Shiraz region, a “big/little wine,” but with a defined purity and elegance. (02:41 - 2.5 MB - 4/10/2008)

  • Sophie’s Garden, Padthaway: Perhaps the most different wine in the portfolio, the “dark sheep of the family,” this cooler-climate wine is less revealing on first blush, but comes on with plenty of fruit and a wall of tannin that makes it a medium to long-term cellaring candidate. (03:12 - 3.0 MB - 4/10/2008)

  • Closing remarks: Don Clemens wraps up an extraordinary tasting.
    (00:47 - 0.7 MB - 4/10/2008)
