VINEYARD MANAGEMENT
To ensure a wine with structure and complexity, not common in New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs, the Roses adhere to exacting vineyard management practices.
“We maintain 100% control from beginning to end,” says Phil Rose. “We grow all of our own grapes, reserving the best for our wines.”
Vineyards:
- 300 acres of vines over three vineyard sites in the Rapaura district of Marlborough
- Only the best quality estate fruit is reserved for the Wairau River brand, with the majority of fruit sold to other wine producers
- Vines are managed to encourage low yields, averaging around three tons of grapes produced per acre, in order to guarantee concentrated fruit flavors
- Lot and clone blending practices yield wines that have added complexity and structure
- Fruit is harvested at the very peak of flavor and maturity
