Somontano’s unique terroir allows Olvena to successfully grow both traditional and international varietals. The winery harvests its grapes from five main vineyards in the Somontano region.

Olvena: At an elevation of 350 to 700 meters and terraced with a southwest orientation, Olvena vineyard features limestone and stony soil and produces Tempranillo, Cabernet, Merlot, Garnacha and Chardonnay varietals. Part of the Olvena vineyard is shaped like an H and is referred to as the Hache vineyard (the Spanish word for H.) The Garnacha grapes for Olvena’s premiere Hache blend are grown here. Overall the vineyard spans about 55.66 hectares.

San Jaime: Also with a southwest orientation, San Jaime vineyard sits at an elevation of about 400 meters and is composed of soil with clay and limestone and areas of sand. It yields Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer varietals and spans about 8.75 hectares.

Figueruela: Next to the River Cinca with a southeast orientation and an elevation of 350 meters, is the Figueruela vineyard. Also know as the “el pago de la libélula” or the “Dragonfly” vineyard for the large number of dragonflies present during the summer, the vineyard’s soil is composed of clay and limestone and stony areas and produces Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot varietals. It spans about 50.54 hectares.

Barbastro: Next to the Figueruela vineyard lies the Barbastro vineyard with soil composed of clay and limestone and stony areas. At an elevation of about 400 meters, it yields Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot varietals and spans about 43.87 hectares.

Estadilla: At an elevation of 350 meters, Estadilla vineyard has a southern orientation and clay and limestone soils. It yields Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah varietals and spans about 51.5 hectares.
